In-Person Course in Los Angeles: Introduction to Numerical Modeling in Geotechnical Engineering

This short course focuses on practical applications of numerical modeling in the simulation of geo-structures such as retaining walls, foundations, and tunnels.

In Person Course, Geo-Congress 2023
Los Angeles, California

About

This short course focuses on practical applications of numerical modeling in the simulation of geo-structures such as retaining walls, foundations, and tunnels. It will introduce the use of constitutive modeling, in-situ stresses, boundary conditions, meshing, and material properties in numerical modeling. Commercially available tools for geotechnical engineers will be introduced, with a focus on the FLAC program (Itasca International Inc.).
This course is held in Geo-Congress 2023 in Los Angeles, California.

Course Schedule

Course Date: Sunday, March 26, 2023
Schedule:
  • 1:00 pm to 2:15 pm, Session 1
  • 2:15 pm to 2:30 pm, Break
  • 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm, Session 2
  • 3:45 pm to 4:00 pm, Break
  • 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Session 3

Tool Used

FLAC3D is a powerful tool for the numerical modeling of geo-structures. With its intuitive interface and advanced features, users can develop and run complex geostructures. In this short course, participants will learn how to use FLAC3D for a simple introductory analysis of geo-structures. Demo version of FLAC3D will be provided to participants for practicing.
